Who we are
Sumas Mountain Rural Property Owners Association is a non-profit society incorporated in British Columbia. Our mission is to to protect and promote the property rights of citizens who reside on Sumas Mountain, and other affected or interested jurisdictions. To this end, we're trying to bring together folks who own rural property on Sumas Mountain, and provide them with information relating to issues that affect all of us living up here. Our hope is that we can provide a forum in which we can keep each other informed, and also (when necessary) present a voice to the City of Abbotsford and other parties when our interests are at stake.
Over the years, it seems the issues facing rural property owners on the mountain have become more frequent, in particular since the annexation of Area H by the City of Abbotsford. We felt that, unless we formed an association, our interests might not be heard. And, although it's true that not all rural property owners up here feel the same way about the annexation, development, gravel pits, tree cutting and so on, we feel the one thing that is very important to all of us is our individual property rights. With that in mind, we formed the association in July of 2012.
